Teacher's Page - Planning and Resources!!
Planning out the Unit:
Student Inventory SheetSince I am a student teacher, I will need to build up some classroom community before I can begin the unit. That is why I made this student inventory sheet that is geared towards some similar questions that the students will have to ask about their animals!
I am also attching another awesome one that a friend shared with me, it is a Facebook profile page! (I just thought it was a bit too old for my kids!) |
Zoo Resarch PagePage to fll out as you navigte through the first day on the website. Works to cover background knowledge about zoo habitats, animal diets, and introduces the importance of "information signs" which is a later project.
|
Story Vs. Research ChartRead a short story about an animal, then compare it to a research story about the same animal. Get them to use a Venn-Chart to distinguish some differences. Distinguishing elements of a research project such as facts, no characters, headings, categories, etc.
|
Research LogThe research log is the core package for students to document their research as they read through books and explore online sources. It includes prompting questions to aid in their research, and has larger areas to describe big ideas such as appearance, diet, habitat, and interesting facts.
|
Peer EvaluationSheet to edit a peer's rough draft, and to get some feedback on their own rough draft before polishing it up!
|
Student Self-EvaluationThis is a checklist to make sure students have completed all of the areas of the assignment, but it also serves as a self evaluation. It is 13 questions about their final product that students must complete by coloring in a smiley face, a straigh face, or a sad face based on how they feel about their performance in that area.
|
Writing Flow MapFlow map to help students clump relevant information into
paragraphs while writing. |
Final Project Marking RubricThis final rubric marks the student as either a Zoologist, a Zoo Keeper, a Trainer, or a Grounds Keeper based on their performance on: participation, visual representation, the organization and presentation of their research, their oral reading, and the overall appearance of their "animal info sign".
